Ogres and Ettins
Lore Lesson: A Brief Look at the Giants / The Ogres & Ettins
Long ago, the giants trapped the dragons using a magical horn to freeze them all in ice. The white dragons were unaffected by this, so the giants waged war against them. The result was the extinction of the white dragons and the near-extinction of the giants. To correct their diminished numbers, the giants resorted to inbreeding; the result of this caused the creation of ogres, genetically imperfect giants. These ogres brought shame on the giants as they were foolish and violent by nature, so they were exiled from their northern homes. They slowly began to drift southward through Rytoria, becoming a threat to Rytorians. To make matters worse, the ogres inbred with each other, not knowing of the consequences. A further mutation occurred, the Ettin, which was a two-headed ogre. These Ettins are surprisingly much more powerful than the average ogre, as they are essentially two ogres in one; each head has its own personality, and its strength and size is nearly twice that of a normal ogre. The Ettin are also much rarer as compared to the common ogre.
